Resumen

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of traffic accidents between 2012 and 2018 in Peru. Material and methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted using data on traffic accidents in Peru from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) from 2012 to 2018. The data on traffic accidents in Peru from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) from 2012 to 2018 were reviewed, taking into account the number of injured and deceased for that reason, in order to then calculate the lethality. Results: Between the years 2012-2018, 560,745 traffic accidents were reported. During 2012, 94 923 traffic accidents were reported, resulting in 54 572 injured persons, 3 313 fatalities with a fatality rate of 3.49 %. 102 762 traffic accidents were reported during 2013 with 59 453 injured, 3 110 fatalities with a fatality of 3.03 %. In 2014 101 104 traffic accidents were reported with 58 148 injured, 2 798 fatalities and a lethality of 2.77 %. In 2015 95 532 traffic accidents were reported, 56 499 injured, 2 965 fatalities and a lethality of 3.10 %. During 2016, 89 304 traffic accidents were reported, 53 776 injured, 2 696 fatalities and a fatality rate of 3.02 %. In 2017, 88168 traffic accidents were reported, 53 776 injured, 2 826 fatalities and a fatality rate of 3.21 %. 90 056 traffic accidents were reported in 2018, 61 512 injured, 3 244 fatalities and a fatality of 3.60 %.
