Objective: To evaluate the association between having received iron during pregnancy and the size of the child at birth in the Peruvian population. Methodology: Descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional study based on information obtained from the 2021 Demographic and Family Health Survey database. The Chi-square test and Odds Ratio wereperformed. Results: The mothers in whose pregnancy never used iron supplements had newborns with small (23.70%) and very small (4.40%) sizes, a higher frequency than those who did take iron during pregnancy (19.10% and 2.70%). . Small (p=0.002, OR:1.65) and very small (p=0.01, OR:1.30) size were associated with not having received iron during pregnancy. Conclusions: The size of the newborn during delivery is related to iron consumption in women of the Peruvian population, being the absence of iron supplementation a risk factor for low size at birth.Descargas
