Clinical and surgical characteristics of patients undergoing transvesical prostatic adenectomy in a hospital in Chiclayo, Peru

Objective: To describe the clinical and surgical characteristics of patients who underwent transvesical prostatic adenomectomy at a hospital in Chiclayo, Peru, from 2018 to 2021. Materials and methods: A descriptive and retrospective study was performed in 145 patients. Results The mean age was 72.1 years, and 58.5% of them had a Foley catheter. The most frequent comorbidity was arterial hypertension (61.6%) and optimal operative time (≤100 minutes) (80.0%). Likewise, 59% presented intraoperative bleeding within the expected range (300 ml–500 ml), and the mean adenoma weight was 84.4 grams. The most frequent postoperative clinical characteristics were hematuria (24.5%) and urinary tract infection (8.8%). Conclusions: Patients undergoing transvesical prostatic adenomectomy in a hospital in Chiclayo were characterized by arterial hypertension as a comorbidity, variable intraoperative time
and bleeding, and hematuria and urinary tract infection were the most frequent complications
