Introduction: Nursing care has evolved into a holistic approach that prioritizes nurse-patient interaction, especially relevant in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in older adults. T2DM increases the risk of microvascular and macrovascular complications, deteriorating the patient’s quality of life. Objective: to analyze the most effective nursing care strategies for the comprehensive management of older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, aiming to improve their quality of life and prevent complications associated with the disease. Methods: Information was reviewed from 11 indexed articles in PubMed, Alicia, the Virtual Health Library, and Google Scholar. Development: The management of type 2 diabetes requires a comprehensive approach that includes promoting self-care, preventing complications, and providing emotional support. Nursing plays a key role in educating patients, improving adherence to treatment, and offering care centered on the individual and their environment. Self-care and early intervention are essential to reduce risks and improve health outcomes in these patients. Conclusions: Nursing care for older adults with type 2 diabetes is crucial for managing the disease and improving quality of life. Personalization, continuous education, and psychosocial support are fundamental to achieving positive outcomes and preventing complications.
